Freeze-dried Black Currants Organic
With its unusual flavours, the currant is one of the most popular summer fruits along with the strawberry. Through freeze-drying, the natural black colour of the currant is completely preserved. This is partly because our black currants are harvested when ripe and then gently freeze-dried. This preserves the intensely sweet-sour taste and all the valuable nutrients and vitamins of the currant. This is particularly important because the blackcurrant has a very high vitamin C content. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system and is also needed to build connective tissue, bones and teeth. In addition to the healthy aspect, blackcurrants also taste fruity and delicious and are therefore a healthy and tasty snack at any time of the year.
Freeze-dried powder/fruit – What’s so special about it?
Did you know that half a handful of freeze-dried fruit counts as a portion of fresh fruit? This can be attributed to the concentration of our freeze-dried fruits. In addition, they can be kept for a long time without refrigeration, convince with their almost unchanged ingredients, their delicious taste and are nevertheless free of additives.
How does freeze-drying work?
Freeze-drying is a particularly gentle preservation process. Our fruits are frozen directly after harvesting and then filled into a vacuum container. The resulting negative pressure causes the water to escape in the form of water vapour at sub-zero temperatures. The special thing about this process is that the intensive aroma, the natural colour and the high content of natural ingredients – including all vitamins – remain almost unchanged. And all this without adding any additives.
What is the best use for freeze-dried fruit/powder?
The whole pieces of freeze-dried fruit are great as a snack, but like the freeze-dried powder, they can also be used in a variety of ways in the kitchen. For example, in mueslis, yoghurts, desserts, porridges, baked goods or in smoothies, lemonades or teas to give the drink a fruity touch.
What is one of the biggest advantages of freeze-drying?
Because the water content of freeze-dried fruits is so low, they have a very long shelf life if stored correctly. Therefore, for long shelf life, it is important that they are placed in an airtight container as soon as possible after opening, which should be in as cool and dark a place as possible. Thus, freeze-dried fruits are, among other things, also a practical alternative when fresh products are not in season.
