Dried Porcini Mushrooms

Porcini mushrooms are among the best-known edible mushrooms in Germany and are considered a German delicacy not only thanks to their pleasantly firm but at the same time tender and light-coloured flesh. Its incomparably elegant aroma tastes nutty and mild, yet intense and creamy. The difference between our porcini  and porcini extraclass is only the size and appearance, which is why porcini is better suited for dishes such as risotto. However, the taste and consistency of both porcini mushrooms is the same. Porcini mushrooms are wild mushrooms and therefore do not come from regulated cultivation. They were collected in the northern forests of Spain and then dried.

We recommend preparing the porcini mushrooms with:

  • Pasta
  • Risotto
  • Soup
  • Salad
  • Meat

How healthy are porcini mushrooms?

Like most mushroom varieties, porcini mushrooms have a relatively high protein content. On top of that, porcini mushrooms are rich in fibre and amino acids, which the body needs as a building block for proteins. In addition, porcini mushrooms have many vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin B1, vitamin B2, potassium, phosphorus and zinc. Did you know that porcini mushrooms can put you in a good mood? The more serotonin the body produces, the better our mood. Tryptophan is the most important building block for the production of serotonin, and porcini mushrooms contain 260 miligrams of it.

Why are dried mushrooms so expensive in relative terms and are there any advantages?

Fresh porcini contain a lot of water and lose up to 90% of their weight when dried. This justifies the higher prices of dried mushrooms compared to fresh ones. But don’t worry. The dried mushrooms swell to almost their conventional size during soaking and both their taste and consistency remain almost unchanged. One of the biggest advantages of dried mushrooms is their shelf life.  If stored correctly, sufficiently dried mushrooms can be kept for several years without any noticeable loss of quality. It is important for the shelf life that the mushrooms are stored in an airtight container.
